Healthcorps® at Work at Tampa Bay Tech

The implementation of the Healthcorps® program, developed by noted physician and lecturer Dr. Oz, is now entering the half year mark at Tampa Bay Tech in Tampa.  This innovative programming provides students, families and the community with information and education to make healthy choices in regards to food and fitness.

In its first six months, this program has already provided various educational offerings to over 300 students.  Events in the first sixth months have included classes on Yoga classes, Parent/Student workshops, Health Fairs and Health Awareness Events which included creation of an art mural and customized skateboards.  Additional events planned for the remainder of the school year include field trips to USF Medical School and distribution of pedometers to student at an upcoming health fair.

Surveys are administered to students at the beginning and end of the program and have been designed to measure:

Student’s shifts in attitude towards improved long-term physical health;

Student’s changes in self-worth and mental resilience

Student’s increased feelings of school connectedness

This program is made possible through the efforts of the Hillsborough County School Board, Healthcorps® and DACCO.
