Read Walter's Story
How a senior citizen overcame his meth addiction.
I was so embarrassed to get caught driving "under the influence' and for the cop to find meth in my truck. I'd been denying I had a problem with methamphetamine for years. I'd tell my self I can manage this after all I've got a bachelors degree and I taught school for 30 years. I'm well known in my community and a deacon in my church….I'm not an addict! But I was, and now am one in recovery thanks to some really good people at DACCO. I ended up in Drug Court and was referred to the BRIGHT program for elderly, excuse me senior citizens! But in the end I need residential treatment so I could not get my hands on any meth. I'm now in a stable recovery with a good sponsor and still active in my church. My priest was very understanding and my church family is supportive too. I'm on oxygen for my COPD and know if I keep smoking the meth my death would have been sooner rather than later. I feel blessed to have been linked with the folks at DACCO…they have saved my life…the rest of it. |
